With many Malaysians heading back to the workplace, it’s important to know how to protect yourself as you adjust to the new norm
Most of us have grown accustomed to wearing masks, using sanitiser, and practising social distancing, and it's important to continue taking these precautions as we go back to work.
Like it or not, we will be coming into contact with more people as we start going into the office, dining out, and visiting public places. This means we need to take extra care to protect ourselves.
Here are a few practical tips, plus a few more from Clorox, to help you stay safe and keep your surroundings free of germs:
1. Disinfect the parts of your vehicle you touch the most
Once you go back to work, you'll be spending a significant amount of time in your car. While there are all kinds of disinfecting services available, you can actually use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to clean most parts of your vehicle.
Some of the hotspots for germs include the seats, steering wheel, seat belts, and any kind of handle (gear shift handle, door handle, car boot handle). To clean these areas, wipe down these surfaces with disinfecting wipes, leaving the surfaces wet for four minutes, before allowing it to dry off naturally.
2. Keep your work desk and office items sanitised daily
Every time you go to your work desk, make sure to sanitise your tabletop and office items you pick up regularly, whether it's pens, staplers, or folders. To get rid of germs, you can spray Clorox All Purpose Cleaner Spray with Bleach on the surface. Leave it for 30 seconds, before wiping it off and leaving it to air dry.

3. Pack your own lunch and utensils if you’re eating in the pantry
Try to pack lunch from home and bring your own cutlery, tumbler, and mugs, so you won't have to use shared utensils from the pantry. During meal times, sit a safe distance away from your colleagues in the pantry, and make sure to put your face mask back on right after your meal.
All these precautions are to help reduce contact with people and lessen the spread of germs as much as possible. When using shared pantry items like the water dispenser or microwave, make sure to sanitise your hands right after.
4. Take extra precaution when using shared public spaces
According to WebMD, some of the germiest places are the shared public spaces in your office. These include elevator buttons, door knobs, photocopy machines, restrooms, and more. While you cannot control how hygienic everyone else is, you can do your best to protect yourself.
That’s why it’s a good idea to always carry around Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, so that you can disinfect any of these high-contact surfaces before you touch them. Although it may seem like a hassle, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
5. Don’t forget to disinfect the things you bring home from work
By the time you come home from work, you might be unaware of germs you've been exposed to during the day. The first thing you'll want to do when you get home is to take a shower and throw your work clothes into your laundry pile. Next, you can disinfect small items like your phone, name tag, and keys using Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.
It is also important to make sure your home is safe from germs and harmful viruses. That’s why you should disinfect high-contact surfaces like the floor and toilet at home. Using Clorox Bleach Original, dilute one cup (250ml) of the product in five litres of water. Next, clean the surface with the solution and let it stand for five minutes. Rinse off with water and allow to air-dry.
The thought of all those germs in public may be concerning, but with proper care you can help protect yourself and your loved ones
