A famous nasi kandar restaurant in Penang has been ordered to close down by the authorities

Berita Harian reported that on Wednesday, 8 January, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) held an inspection on food outlets in George Town.
That night, one well-known restaurant along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling was ordered to shut down for 14 days.

As a matter of fact, they claim to have seen rats running around in the kitchen during the inspection.
According to The Star, the restaurant is a crowd favourite and there is always a long queue at night.
MBPP environmental health officer M Bavani said that they also inspected another restaurant and two mini marts in the area

The second nasi kandar restaurant was fined RM100 for keeping their food items in a refrigerator that could lead to cross-contamination.
Meanwhile, the two mini marts were ordered to close for 14 days.
She stressed that the restaurant should comply with cleanliness requirements as advised, especially regarding pest control against rats, cockroaches, and flies.
The shutdown order was in accordance with MBPP bylaws under Section 38 (1) of the Food Establishment Act Bylaws 1991.
