However, there is good news! It was reported by Bernama that Malaysia’s very own ‘sakura’ trees have just started to bloom this week!
Every year, these trees will give downtown Alor Setar, Kedah a beautiful splash of pink
Known as tecoma trees (<i>Tabebuia Pentaphylla</i>), they bloom beautiful sakura-looking flowers in pink and white from February to April every year.<br></br></p>
Reaching their peak bloom in March, the tecoma trees look as calming and pleasing as the cherry blossom trees in Japan do
The flowers look even more surreal when they’ve fallen to the ground!
Grab your cameras and find the trees along Jalan Kuala Kedah, Jalan Langgar, and Jalan Yan in downtown Alor Setar
You can find the trees anywhere else in the city, as according to The Star, there are a total of 2,720 existing tecoma trees there to date.
Alor Setar City Council mayor Datuk Mohd Zohdi Saad said they plan to plant more trees and make a ‘Sakura Kedah’ corner at Jalan Kuala Kedah in June this year.
They will also be holding a photography contest to attract more tourists to their city.
It may be a good idea to head on to Kedah now, because while the trees will flower in stages over the next month, the flowers will only bloom for 14 days!
